PORCELAIN

Mannington

The Mannington Program is comprised exclusively of Porcelain tile. Porcelain tile is made with special clays and minerals that are kiln-fired at temperatures that can exceed 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. As a result, porcelain is both harder and denser than other tile products. Additionally, porcelain is frost-proof as well as highly stain-, scratch-, and water-resistant.

Porcelain tile offers other advantages, as well:
  • Better performance. Mannington porcelain tile can be installed in heavy traffic areas (Class 4 and 5), and some lines are slip-resistant and ADA approved.
  • More aesthetically pleasing. Our satin-finish tile exhibits the realistic, authentic look of stone (but without the price of real stone). Through-body construction is superior to redbody because the color is consistent through the entire tile.
  • Higher perceived value. From a decorating standpoint, porcelain is hot. Because of its higher performance and better aesthetics, people are requesting it by name.
  • Higher breaking strength. Porcelain contains less clay and more feldspar (a mineral) than regular ceramic tile. It’s also pressed at a higher pressure, making it 30% harder than granite.
  • Less water absorption. Therefore, less staining and easier to clean
To assist you with the terminology, here are some general terms associated with porcelain tile flooring:
  • Abrasion Resistance: The degree to which a tile's glaze will withstand the wear of foot traffic.
  • Breaking Strength: The degree to which a tile will withstand breaking stress.
  • Mohs: A scale of hardness developed by the German mineralogist Frederich Mohs. Range from 1 (talc) to 10 (diamond).
  • Shade Variation: Any variation in color or texture from tile to tile.
  • Water Absorption: A percentage of water absorbed by the body of the tile.

Porcelain Tile

Q. What is the difference between Porcelain Tile and Ceramic Tile?
A. Porcelain tile is more scratch resistant than ceramic tile. Porcelain is made from a finer, more dense clay, which results in a more dense, harder body. Also, porcelain tile is fired at higher temperatures than ceramic, resulting in superior durability and stain resistance.

Q. How do I care for my Porcelain Tile floor?
A. Porcelain tile is stain-resistant requiring minimal maintenance. Simply wipe up spills with a damp cloth or sponge. Regular cleaning with clear water or a mild detergent is recommended.

Q. What is Shade Variation?
A. Any variation in color or texture from tile to tile.

Q. What is a Moh?
A. A Moh is a scale of hardness developed by the German mineralogist Fredrich Mohs. The scale ranges from 1 (talc) to 10 (diamond).
